Gleeson Wetlands

Pauline is seen alongside the newly installed sculpture of the Ibis.

The following email was received by the Clare Lions Green Team from a very generous local, Pauline Reid.  It followed the installation of a number of sculptures in the Gleeson Wetlands to which she made a considerable donation.  The Clare Lions Green team want to share this  with all Lions as it confirms how many in our communities appreciate the work that we Lions do in our community.

Pauline entitled her Email, “Art Enhances Nature”

Clare locals are familiar with the unstinting work the Clare Lions Club ‘Green Team’ undertake for our community.  The continuing custodianship of the Wetlands on the Northern edge of Clare is an outstanding example.  The number of visitors attracted to its walking tracks and to enjoy the flora and fauna continues to grow, particularly during the COVID-19 travel restrictions.  The Green Team’s latest project has been to commission Darren Pattison, an SA Artist with longstanding family connections to Clare, to produce a number of Sculptures appropriate to the setting.  These sculptures have just been installed and truly enhance the natural landscape.  So put on your walking shoes and go take a look at this latest community achievement.”

What an endorsement of this extremely popular and much appreciated Lions “Green Team” Project.

Within a couple of days, the word had spread and a reporter from the Southern Cross network wanted to do a feature story for the 7 news in regional South Australia.  If you follow the link below you will see the news item that went to air in mid-February this year, days after the sculptures were installed in the Gleeson Wetlands.
