District Meets at Port Augusta

Port Augusta Lions Convention 2018

Around 200 Lions and partners traveled to Port Augusta for the 201C1 District convention.

On Friday night we met at Central Oval complex for the Mayoral Convention where Mayor Johnson welcomed us to the city and gave us update on where Port Augusta was heading – very informative.

This was followed by the official opening, flag and remembrance ceremony . Local Member Dan Van Holst Pelikaan performed the official opening and spoke of his work with the local club and the work they have done. Flag ceremony was done by local Scouts and Ignite cheerleaders.

The evening was concluded by a very moving Remembrance ceremony and supper.

We all met again on Saturday for the business section and Youth of the Year.

The partners took a bus tour to view RFDS headquarters and Arid Land. Reports back were positive of the morning.

Keynote speakers were Cliff Heywood and Rob Oerlemans who gave us a good insight to their time in Lions and where they saw Lions heading.

We were also fortunate enough to have Dr Bas Kirmani from RFDS tell us who he was and how he got to Port Augusta, very informative, very amusing and overall very entertaining.

That night we returned to the complex for the DG dinner. All got into the Black & White theme and President Steve enthralled us with his microphone skills!!!. Even the band were into the night and we saw some fine dancing skills from the crowd.

On Sunday for the closing ceremony we treated to members to a train trip to Woolshed Flat where we had a BBQ lunch and then back home. From the photos it was obvious that the train trip was a winner.

Port Augusta Lions put a lot of work into the weekend and hope all enjoyed the experience and hospitality of our Club. Over to you Copper Coast.
