Dear Lions,

It is pleasing to see that our clubs are coming out of hibernation and are starting to have face-to-face meetings once again as Covid 19 restrictions are being relaxed. However, we must not be complacent. We must always comply with the new policies of social distancing, hand washing together with improved standards of hygiene. If we do not, restrictions will be restored, and we could be in a worse position than we were before.

The primary goal in conducting our clubs is always to keep our members healthy and safe by:

  1. Prioritising health and safety
  2. Listening to concerns of our members and responding to these concerns
  3. Being prepared to innovate where required
  4. Communicating effectively with our members

Your new District Cabinet has now met twice since July 1st and will continue to meet monthly, either by zoom or face-to-face. We are developing strategies to increase membership, improving programs, reviewing existing projects and looking at new service projects in our District to regain lost ground. Each Cabinet Member is working hard in their various portfolios and I am pleased to be able to report that there is an increase in momentum and enthusiasm.

During the last month, I have been in contact with many clubs and I am very pleased to see how the various clubs are adapting to using technologies available and the environment that we find ourselves in. Your enthusiasm inspires me and I and very confident that we, with all of us working towards the same direction as a team, will make a difference to our communities in the coming year.

I request that each of you consider attending our District Convention at Peterborough between the 16th and 18th of October where we will be discussing matters pertaining to the future of our District, showcasing some of the projects of our Clubs and District, not to mention the exciting social events your Convention Committee are planning for all conventioneers.

Keep up the good work.

Tony Pederick OAM
