DG Handover Dinner (25 July 2020)

Gavel and Gong

On Saturday July 25th, the Lions Club of Wallaroo hosted the District Governor (DG) Handover Dinner at the Wallaroo Community and Sports Club (WCSC), where outgoing DG, Kevin Masters of the Wallaroo Lions Club, handed the reigns to the incoming DG, Tony Pederick OAM of the City of Adelaide Lions Club.

A formal affair, it proved an evening of celebration, with a fabulous 3 course meal, prepared and served by WCSC volunteers. Wallaroo Lions and WCSC members attended the bar, serving a welcome drink on arrival.

MC for the evening was Port Pirie Lion Lance Leak OAM, with the handover ceremony conducted by past DG, Megan Butler of Elizabeth Playford Lions. Funds raised from the evening were donated to Lions International: Campaign 100, as requested by Lance. Wallaroo Lions President Keith Brooks handed the District Governor Home Club banner to City of Adelaide President Petrea Stacey, and the new DG, Tony, introduced his cabinet, who were warmly welcomed by all.

Various awards were presented by DG Kevin, including the James D Richardson Honour Award to Wallaroo’s Barbara Newman for ‘Dedicated Service to Lions’ and the annual Footprints Award to Stansbury’s Chris Duncan. This award was put into place by PDG Lyn for a person who ‘Works consistently in the background’ for the cause of Lions in the C1 district. Congratulations to all of those who’s dedication to Lions ethics were acknowledged on the night.

Kevin Masters presented Tony Pederick the C District gavel and gong, officially handing over District Governor responsibilities to Tony.

As a token of his appreciation, outgoing DG Kevin presented each of his Cabinet members with a lovely keyring from the Milan convention.

All in all, an enjoyable and entertaining night for everyone. Many thanks to those that participated, especially the gals and guys of the WCSC, with a special thanks to Cathy Vluggen for her efforts in ensuring the evening was a great success.
