During this year’s Lions District 201C1 Convention, The Wallaroo Lions hosted the District Governor’s Dinner at the Wallaroo Community and Sports Club, with 113 guests attending in the spirit of fellowship. These Conventions are an important way for Lions members to share ideas, catch up with old friends, meet new friends and celebrate the year’s achievements.
It was a special night, with a cheque for over $32,000, donated by local Lions clubs and individuals, being presented to CEO of Australian Lions Foundation, PID Tony Benbow, for the National Disaster Appeal Fund, to aid those so recently affected by bush fires throughout Australia. A timely donation; given the recent devastation experienced by the people of Yorktown, Edithburgh and surrounding areas. Raffles and money envelopes were also run on the night, with those funds being added to the appeal as well. The generosity of all who attended spoke volumes on the success of the night.
DG Kevin Masters handed out Certificates of Appreciation to the committee members, who worked tirelessly to bring the 3 day Convention together, with both Irene de la Haye of Wallaroo Lions and PDG Glenn Herbert of Bute Lions, receiving well deserved International Presidents Certificates of Appreciation, acknowledging the huge amount of work and hours they both committed to the Convention.
An International Award was presented to PDG Carlene King OAM, on her retirement from the Global Leadership Team, acknowledging her dedication and contribution to the team for over 30 years.
Members wish to thank the members of the WCSC for helping with setting up and serving, Cathy Vluggen for co-ordinating the event, Greg and Brian (our barmen), Wendy and Al for the lovely meal, Makin’ Tracks for the great entertainment, and all of the businesses and individuals that donated prises for the raffle. Well done! A fun night was had by all.
Please remember, if you have any interest in joining Lions, the Wallaroo Club would love to hear from you. There is always room for new members and fresh ideas.
