The Adelaide 36ers are proud to announce the Australian Lion Hearing Dogs as an official Charity Partner for the NBL 21 season dedicating their home game on Saturday 10 April against Perth Wildcats to raising funds and awareness.

The Australian Lion Hearing Dogs is a not-for-profit charity that has been training, delivering, and supporting Hearing Assistance Dogs, which are gifted to deaf or hard of hearing people for over 40 years.

Adelaide 36ers Chairman Grant Kelley is also Campaign Chairman of ‘Paws for Independence’, a national fundraising campaign targeted at raising $10 million for a new national training centre at Verdun in the Adelaide Hills.

“Australian Lions Hearing Dogs is a charity that to which my family is highly committed, given my late Grandmother suffered from a loss of independence caused by hearing loss for over 30 years. For her to have had access to a Hearing Assistance Dog would have made an incredibly positive impact on her life”, Mr Kelley said.

“As a well-known sporting Club, we have the ability to advocate for worthy causes which enrich the entire community, and with the demand for Hearing Assistance Dogs continuing to increase, and current wait periods approaching two years, we wanted to do what we can to support and change the lives of people with a hearing loss”.

Adelaide 36ers players Josh Giddey and Tony Crocker are also getting on board to support Australian Lions Hearing Dogs, a charity that not only increases the quality of day-to-day living, they also help to alleviate many of the conditions often associated with deafness and hard of hearing, such as depression, anxiety, and communication withdrawal.

Australian Lions Hearing Dogs CEO David Horne is excited to be working with the Adelaide 36ers to raise funds and awareness for hearing loss in Australia, “One in six Australians has some form of hearing loss with the number to increase to one in four by 2050”.

“With each dog costing over $37,000 to train, deliver and support we are grateful for the support of our generous donors including the Adelaide 36ers club, fans, and members” Mr Horne concluded.

The Adelaide 36ers x Australian Lions Hearing Dogs home game on Saturday 10 April will feature fundraising activities and activations with Hearing Assistance Dogs and puppies in training.
