About DG Ray

Ray Najar’s Lions journey began over five decades ago in November 1971, when he joined the Renmark Lions Club. Since then, service has been a constant thread through his life. With every move – whether to Berri, Mildura, Bendigo or Golden Grove – Ray carried his Lions spirit with him. In 2003, he joined the City of Adelaide Lions Club, where he remains an active and valued member.

Ray has held numerous leadership roles at both club and district levels, always bringing energy, experience, and a deep commitment to community. His ability to connect people, solve problems, and drive initiatives forward has earned him great respect throughout District 201C1 and beyond.

Outside of Lions, Ray has made significant contributions in the field of irrigation and civil engineering. A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU), he completed his Master’s thesis on irrigation water use efficiency – titled “From Furrow to Sprinkler to Drip” – in 1976, long before water conservation became a global priority.

His professional career has been just as impactful. Ray served as Vice President of the Irrigation Association (1998-2002), and held national board and presidential roles with the Australian Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI), including a five-year term as National President and ongoing Life Membership.

Ray’s leadership in both Lions and his professional life reflects a passion for service, innovation, and making a lasting difference. As District Governor for 2025-26, he brings a wealth of knowledge, an international perspective, and a genuine desire to empower clubs across the district.
